The parish-wide celebration of our Jubilee year has come to its end. The 50th Anniversary of the dedication of St. Mary’s of the Lake Church on Walworth Road in 1966 has been observed. This whole year of celebration was full of events that have brought our parish family together in thanksgiving for the many ways our parish communities have inspired our lives. The Jubilee gave us a chance to introduce new programs to our Parish, programs that will be carried on into the future for the benefit of our parishioners, for our towns, and for the surrounding area. We officially closed the Jubilee year at all three weekend Masses, beginning Saturday at the evening Mass at St. Mary’s and continuing Sunday at 8:00 at Church of the Epiphany. Bishop Salvatore Matano presided at a Solemn Mass on Sunday, the 11th of September and anniversary date. During this Mass,we dedicated the St. Maximilian Kolbe plaques that will serve as a memorial at each church. With 340 in attendance, including parishioners over 100 and under one year old, and together with our bishop, we prepared a time capsule for 2066, witnessed by some of our youngest parishioners. The Mass was then followed by a luncheon in our St. Mary’s of the Lake parish center. A big Thank You to all who have made these and all other Jubilee events possible by their involvement as volunteers or simply by being present.
How amazing was the St. Max Jubilee?
Together, our three church communities of Church of the Epiphany
(Sodus), St. Rose of Lima
(Sodus Point), and St. Mary’s of the Lake
(Ontario) celebrated a year-long Jubilee ~ from September 2015 to September 2016. The variety of events and gatherings offered “something for everyone” and brought people together in new ways. We hope you found opportunities just right for you – and will let us know any programs you would like to see continued in the future.
Thank you to everyone who volunteered, participated, attended, and supported the Jubilee year and St. Max Parish.
